Billie Virginia (Wells) McFarland
Billie Virginia Wells McFarland, age 86, passed away May 3, 2016 in Lakeland, Florida. She was born in Sedalia, Missouri daughter of John Henry Wells and Anna Burns Wells. She spent her childhood in Sedalia, graduating from Smith-Cotton High School. She married John McFarland, August 1, 1947 after he returned home from serving his country during WW ll. John passed away October 5, 2015. Billie and John celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary shortly before his passing. In 1960, she and her family moved to Clearwater, Florida, relocating to Brandenton, Florida in 1966. She was a active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Country Club of Brandenton. In 1976 they moved to Asheville, North Carolina and bought Ladd's Seafood in the heart of downtown. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling and visiting many historical places. She was an avid reader, bridge player and loved to talk politics and economics. She is survived by two children, John S. McFarland and wife Debra (Vero Beach, Florida) and Peggy Warren and husband Gary Warren (Highlands, North Carolina), grandchildren, John, Stephen, Jonathan and Sarah. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, John Madison McFarland, brother John Darius Wells, sister Patty Jean McIntrye, sister Peggy Marie Wells, brother Robert Morley Wells. The arrangements are being handled by Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, Florida and Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home in Sedalia, Missouri. A private service is planned in Sedalia, Missouri. Billie and John will be buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
