Obituary for
Arthur Thomas Caton
Arthur Thomas Caton, 92, of Blue Springs, formerly of Sedalia; died Wednesday morning, March 22, 2017 at the home of his son in Grain Valley, Mo. He was born June 22, 1924, near Carrolton, Missouri, son of John Thomas and Ethel Maud Yarrington Caton, who preceded him in death. On June 15, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri he was united in marriage with the love of his life Margie Kathleen Stephens, who preceded him in death on April 10, 1979. Arthur was raised on a farm near Braymer, Missouri and graduated from Stet High School in 1943. He raised sheep on the farm and was awarded First Place at the Missouri State Fair. He Served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1949 as a diesel mechanic in Alaska. He was discharge to return home to provide for his mother and sister after his father's death. He began his employment with General Motors in Kansas City, at the Leeds plant in 1950 and worked there for thirty years. Following his retirement from GM he had a successful lawn mowing business in the Sedalia area. Those years hold fond memories for the grandchildren who spent summers mowing with Grandpa. Arthur was always sure to have a large garden and beautiful flower. He had strong Baptist beliefs and served faithfully in the church. Arthur loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed telling stories about them to anyone who would listen. He is survived by a son, John Caton and wife Debbie, Grain Valley, Mo; three daughters, Sandra Rice and husband James, Boliver, Mo; Connie Eckhoff and husband Dave, Sedalia, Mo; Jan Amacker and husband Wolf, Linden, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, Brandy, Christopher, David, Michael, Sarah, Timothy, Jeffrey, Chad, Esther, Aaron and Courtney; 27 great grandchildren, Karolyn, Devin, Tyler, Jordan, Summer, Ethan, Julian, James, J.T., Chloe, Chance, Jackson, Isaac, Emily, Grace, Landon, Andrew, Matthew, William, Anna Claire, Logan, Elsa, Chip, Annabella, Emily Kate, Nova, and Liam. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Julia Caton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with the Rev. James L. Rice officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Houstonia Cemetery, Houstonia, Mo. Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. The family suggests contributions to Kindred Hospice.
